Dr. Derman is a practicing internal medicine physician since 1988. He trained at the University of Michigan for his undergraduate studies. His medical studies were at the University of Illinois where he graduated in 1984. He trained in Internal Medicine from 1984-1987 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He was selected among 35 of his peers to be Chief Medical Resident.
Upon completion of his training he opened his own practice, which he later sold to Northwestern Memorial Healthcare in 1995, where it has served as the foundation for NMG, a multispecialty medical group of more than 1,200 physicians.
He was appointed President of Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group and remained in this position throughout 2015.
Since that time has served as a Senior Vice President and the Chief Innovation Officer for Northwestern Medicine. In addition to this clinical responsibilities and innovation work, he leads the International Division and Executive Health Program.
Dr. Derman also services as an advisor for many medical companies and currently sits on the Board of Resonance Medical.
