Associate Vice President for Research @ Northwestern University
Dr. Fruma Yehiely is the Associate Vice President for Research at Northwestern University. She also holds the position of Research Associate Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine and a joint appointment with Argonne National Laboratory. She has over 20 years of research experience; national and international academic and industry collaborations; and over a decade of leadership roles in the Office for Research at Northwestern University.
Dr. Yehiely’s portfolio focuses on interdisciplinary strategic initiatives. She oversees the administration of over 50 Interdisciplinary University Research Institutes and Centers, and the Office for Research Development that support Northwestern’s faculty across departments and schools develop innovative grant proposals to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Energy (DoE) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Over the years she had facilitated national and international partnerships, and the development and implementation of new University-wide research initiatives.
Dr. Yehiely led and diverse research programs from neurodegenerative diseases to cancer, managed multi-million dollars industry and federal grants and contracts, and consulted on proprietary gene discovery platforms. She is a co-leader in the Kellogg Executive Education course “Leadership and Management in Core Facilities”, co-directed the course of “Team Science” in the Master of Science in Clinical Investigation Program, and is a nationally invited speaker on the praxis of “Team Science”.
Dr. Yehiely earned her BSc from Tel-Aviv University, her PhD from the Weizmann Institute of Science, and completed her post-doctoral training at the University of California San Francisco, under the mentorship of Dr. Stanley Prusiner, Nobel Laureate.
