Karl Kochendorfer, MD, FAAFP is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, Chief Health Information Officer (CHIO) and Associate Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) and Associate Professor of Clinical Family Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He is Board certified in Clinical Informatics and Family Medicine. He has a degree in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He is currently a practicing family physician who delivers babies and cares for hospitalized patients at UI Health. Dr. Kochendorfer has founded and led many enterprise initiatives, including Meaningful Use (MU), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), Clinical Guideline and Protocol Oversight, Clinical Decision Support (CDS), Patient Portal and Data Governance Committees and Teams. He also holds several informatics related patents, founded a company, MedSocket, and the Collaborative for Health Informatics. With his background in both medicine and informatics, Dr. Kochendorfer manages the deployment and evaluation of leading-edge solutions to improve efficiency, quality, and technology adoption.
