Strategic Initiatives @ MATTER
A seasoned marketing professional with more than 20 years of broad experience in both agency and corporate settings, Melissa has served a variety of digital and traditional businesses of all sizes, and has a passion for advising high-growth startups on developing a strong brand foundation and scaling into new markets. Melissa’s expertise includes brand development and positioning, product marketing, new product launches, customer acquisition, marketing communications, social media marketing, and community engagement.
Over the past several years, Melissa has been an active participant in building Chicago’s robust entrepreneurial community. Melissa was part of the founding team of 1871, Chicago’s nationally recognized digital innovation hub, and served as its chief marketing officer for more than 2 years. Following 1871, Melissa helped found the healthcare incubator and innovation center MATTER, where she was responsible for defining and building the MATTER brand and managing all areas of the company’s marketing, communications and events. She currently supports MATTER strategic initiatives and special projects. Most recently, Melissa has been an acting marketing advisor on the launch of mHUB, the City’s third key incubator focused on physical product innovation and manufacturing.
Prior to starting her marketing consultancy in 2008, Melissa was the SVP of marketing for Q Interactive (formerly CoolSavings) where she oversaw all marketing, communications and creative functions and served on the company’s senior leadership team. Melissa is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
